Mike Rogers is the newest member of the band, officially joining in November 2015. He started playing drums at the age of 12. Inspired by Mötley Crue, Black Sabbath, and many others, he is largely self-taught. Mike’s studies of percussion instruments got more in-depth, which led to him joining local Lima bands including SOL (with future fellow Sunset Junkie Joe Swora!), A Break From Failure, and Tragic Entry. While Mike enjoys recording, he is passionate about playing live music and jamming at every opportunity.
When asked why Mike decided to join Sunset Junkies, he replied: “I quickly found that everyone had the same passion and work ethic as me. It makes me want to play harder and be an overall better musician and continue to grow with Sunset Junkies for many years to come.”
Mike’s drum kit is a six-piece PDP set with a Joey Jordison signature snare, 2 Zildjian “ZBT” crash cymbals, a Zildjian “Sweet Ride” ride cymbal, a Zildjian bell, and a Meinl splash cymbal.
Five things to know about me
My dream instrument:
An acrylic drum kit with water and fishes in the shells. Who wouldn’t want a fish tank drum kit?
Song that has influenced me the most:
Slipknot “Spit It Out.” It was the first time I heard someone play double bass that fast, it was like a machine gun.
My dream venue to play at:
I want to sell out the desert. The desert is like endless. I wanna be able to look out and not be able to tell where the crowd ends.
The rock and roll artist I’d love to meet the most:
Jay Weinberg, because not only so I admire his playing but also his dedication and how hard he worked to get where he is.
First song I learned to play:
“Kickstart My Heart” by Mötley Crue.
